So here we are , less than three weeks from Christmas. I'm not really sure how that happened without me noticing it, except the past three months have been a bit of a whirlwind.
We live in a very generous community. I learned that first hand through my years as the KOOL FM Poster Boy. The response was both amazing...and reassuring. Knowing we lived in a place where people genuinely care about each other never gets old.
Most of us are able to celebrate Christmas however we want. But some people don't have that luxury, and our thoughts should turn to them as the season moves closer.
Last year, my wife and I launched a knitting campaign to provide hats, scarves and mitts for those who found themselves having to use the area's shelters. More than a hundred knitted articles were donated, and Diana and I along, with our oldest daughter Allie spent a very cold evening delivering that warmth to the people who needed it. It really was the best part of last Christmas.
I urge you to help in whatever way you can. This year, we will be supporting the Tree of Angels, as we have since it was launched almost 20 years ago. My former work wife Angie Hill is the honorary chair. You have no idea how hard she works for that cause. The City of Waterloo is a co sponsor of the event.
But...every media outlet in town has a similar program, and many other agencies need help as well. The Social Planning Council has an excellent list of the ways you can help.
It's not about money, or presents. Sometime the greatest gift you can give is your time.
