One of the great things about both positions....I spend an awful lot of time in Uptown Waterloo. Certainly over our 33 years in Waterloo we have visited Uptown... (We have lived here long enough to remember the old Waterloo Towne Square, and the beautiful smells of whiskey and beer which used to waft over the area from Labatt and Seagram's.....)
Not long enough to remember the scene from the picture, but you get it....
I'm sure you've heard by now the struggles many Uptown business are having. The reconstruction of Caroline St does put a crimp in travelling, and takes you away from the most convenient spot to park. But truthfully....since I drive down here every day from the West side, it's really not that difficult to get around, and park. (I usually shoot down Columbia, then turn right on Regina--it's a construction free zone...maybe the last one left!)
There are certainly more than a few great places to sit, and have a pint. The Duke of Wellington has always been a favorite, but Abe Erb--if you haven't been--- is a must go to spot! And there are plenty of others as well. I haven't had a bad lunch --at any of them. And there are plenty of interesting shops....from one end of the price spectrum to the other.
Last night, Councillors voted to allow free parking in the first floor of the Parkade building right through December, in an effort to lure some of you to the Uptown area.
So come on down....and if you see me...say hi....I'll show you my new "other" neighbourhood.
