None of us is perfect. We have all done something. which in hindsight, could have been handled in a different way.
But I also think we all have an inkling of that before anything happens.
My good friend and former co host Angie Hill always looked at it in a fairly simple way, Thus the headline on this blog.
For politicians it's a little different, We are responsible to the city, and to the public. In fact, you, as a voter, are a two headed monster. You are both our boss, and our customer, so our responsibility to you is doubled.
As a civic representative, there may be times when we are on duty for the city, and have the right to have some expenses covered. Fair enough. But I think, we have the responsibility to treat that money as if it were our own. Which it is, because we are taxpayers too. It goes back to conducting business as efficiently as possible. That should always be the mantra.
And when it comes to openness, no elected representative should ever have a problem with their expenses being posted, unless somewhere in your mind you're having that inkling perhaps something just wasn't right.
If I am elected, I will post that information, and I'll push for all councillors to do the same...not once a year, but when they are incurred. It's your money. You need to know where it goes, I don't. red a code, or a commissioner to tell me that
