But it's all part of the process. Yesterday, was a long day, like many Mondays, with a strategic planning session to begin with, then a committee of the whole meeting.
Part of that last one, revolved around a zone change for the plaza at Erbsville Road and Laurelwood drive. The owner wants permission to increase the size of some of the units on site. No new building is planned, they simply want to expand some units to appeal to perhaps different businesses.
I received a couple of emails from nearby residents, concerned about the impact re: noise, garbage, delivery trucks, et cetera Although I had raised the concerns in council, I'm happy to say one of the residents did take the time to come to the meeting, and express her reservations! (and she had to be patient, through a very long discussion about noise exemptions for LRT construction)
I'm always happy to bring your concerns to the table, but I also think it's very important residents be heard especially in that forum. I know it has an impact with councillors. And it doesn't happen often enough
In the end, the zoning change was approved. But because of her appearance, discussions around the garbage and noise issued did come about, and we have put her in contact with the city staff who can help, along with Tim from the Laurelwood Neighbourhood Association, who will work with her as well as some changes come to the plaza.
I can't promise you'll always get the result you want, or that you'll find our meetings exciting. But you will be heard. And that's a really big first step
