The combination of a long stretch of cold weather...and no January thaw has left many of us struggling with the clearing of residential sidewalks. Some people, of course, don't bother. Others...just don't get out there in time before the snow is packed down into ice.
Which has brought us to the suggestion it's time for the city to take on the job of plowing residential sidewalks. Some cities already do that. Anytime a city adds a service there's an added cost. Choices are limited...find savings in the current budget, or raise the revenue from somewhere else.
Remember, the sidewalks would only be cleared after a certain amount of snow falls (the same way the road system is cleared) So if you live on one of those streets which is not at the top of the priority list...it may take a little more time than you think to get it cleared. Do you think it's a service the city should provide? And if so...how much would you be willing to pay...if anything.
