There have been more than a few life changes over the past almost 12 months since I left (or was escorted out, if you prefer + ) of the local media last August.

Getting elected to city council, was  one of them, but as well, it was also time for me to find some new employment (Being a city councilor is very interesting and challenging, and can also eat up a lot  of time--but it's not enough at this point to carry me into whatever plans we might have for the future)

So taking my brother's advice, I jumped into another role, this time with a different radio company in a sales and marketing position.    While I learned a lot, it was not what I really wanted to do, so I continued to look for the right opportunity.    And that landed in my lap a few weeks ago.   So, as of now, I am also the Media Relations specialist for United Way, Kitchener Waterloo and area.

Just what does that fancy title mean?   Quite simply, I'll be helping the people at this very caring, and forward thinking operation get their message out to the community in a variety of different ways, through both traditional, social, and new media.

United Way is a supporter of a variety of programs and initiatives across Waterloo Region, all based on three foundational ideas....  "Helping kids be all they can be"   "From poverty to possibility" and "Healthy People, Strong communities"

It's difficult to argue with any of those goals.    And even more so, to find any fault with one of the organizations key planks "Changing conditions for the betterment of the community"

I consider myself to be a very fortunate man.    I've had a long career in one business, and am now embarking in a couple of new roles.
I've been able to raise healthy, happy kids...who have been well educated, and are on the path to success.
I really do want every one else to have those opportunities.   And United Way is one conduit through which that can happen.
And that, my friends, is really why I joined up.   The opportunity to use whatever skills, abilities and contacts I've developed over the years to do something worthwhile.

If you can find it in your heart to invest,  whether  with your time, your resources or your skills, it CAN make a difference.
